What is the ideal duration of vacation?

Many sites online say Choses a Savoir is a good pick for podcasts, so I wanted to try it out. And immediately you’ll notice something special – it’s quick!

This snippet is about 244 words per minute, that’s really fast. You can get a feel for that with what seems to be “alors voilà” at the start of this clip. And many liaisons and a quick speech to boot.

It’s interesting that to me it doesn’t feel rushed. If I were to speak English at 244 words per minute, you’d know. French as the benefit of liaison’s and words that blend together making the speech feel smooth. The speaker even seems to pause briefly in the middle. The content is not as tricky nor esoteric as previous posts in the recent posts from Géopolitique. It feels more accessible, especially with the subject matter.

However, the “ne …. pas” is almost unintelligible for me. I really stumbled there. Also, the question “quelle est la” is said so quickly it sounded like one word. Interesting how these common expressions: negatives and questions, can be uttered so quickly.

I love this little snippet, a light joke quickly run through to open up his audio essay.

Alors.

So. This is a question that can be answered differently depending on the person to whom it is asked and on his or her involvement. For example, if an employer is asked what is the ideal length of vacation for his employees, his answer will certainly not be the same as if this question is addressed to and applies to himself.
