We are not… we are…
I found this ad on Youtube and wanted to share it. It’s like spoken word set to train track beat talking about the French. An interesting take as a learner looking to dive into the culture.
It’s intersting how often “on” is used so much. I think it gets covered in beginner lessons, but not nearly in proportion to the amount it seems to be used everywhere.
Come to think of it, I don’t recall seeing it on Duolingo lessons, their robots don’t seem to be using in in expressions, often relying on first plural conjugations for “we”.
And yet, when I hear French speak, and see it in advertisements like this one… “on” always seems to show up.

On n’est pas statique, on est progressiste.
On ne va pas se refaire, on est parfois en retard.
Mais on n’est pas un retardataire, on est avant-gardiste.
We are not static, we are progressive.
We are not going to recover, we are sometimes late.
But we are not a latecomer, we are avant-garde.
