    And so on

Another day, another quiz. And so on. My French is definitely far superior to when I first started this project, 200+ quizzes ago. But I’m still far from where I want to be. So the studies will continue, and so forth. Each day I’ll try to keep this site fresh with new podcasts. As we close out this episode of Balades, the question becomes, what’s next for us? What are the future podcasts that will fill these quizzes?

If you’re just joining us as a beginner, I recommend you start with the first dfepisode of Balades. Follow along daily for new clips.

How did you find today’s clip compared to yesterday’s clip? I tend to be most comfortable when the clip is around 150wpm. I love Balades for my current level, around A1 (hopefully progressing to A2). Hopefully you’re enjoying these clips, too. This story is fantastic and Even when there’s a fast clip, it’s still manageable. The right amount of challenge. What do you think? Join us for the next quiz.

How are you finding these shorter snippets? I’m open to any and all feedback, as always. Let me know.

Et ainsi de suite. Cela dure toute la nuit. Le matin, les serviteurs ressortent de l’auberge et amènent la litière au palais du roi.

And so on. This goes on all night. In the morning, the servants come out of the inn and take the litter to the king’s palace.

What does “et ainsi de suite” mean in French?

“Et ainsi de suite” is a French expression that can be translated to “and so on” or “and so forth” in English. It is used to indicate that there are more items or examples of the same kind that are not being enumerated or mentioned, but that the listener or reader can infer. It’s a way to shorten a list of items or examples by not mentioning all of them and leaving it to the listener/reader to understand that there are more.

    For example:

    • J’ai acheté des pommes, des poires, des bananes et ainsi de suite. (I bought apples, pears, bananas, and so on.)
    • Les problèmes étaient la circulation, le bruit et ainsi de suite. (The problems were traffic, noise, and so forth.)
    • Il a répété les mêmes erreurs, oublié les rendez-vous et ainsi de suite. (He repeated the same mistakes, forgot the appointments and so on)

It’s a way to be concise and explicit at the same time, and can be used in both spoken and written French.
