Today was my first class with the Alliance française. It’s an interesting class as the teacher used about 95% French. The director popped his head in and also spoke in French. I knew what they were tlaking about, and it surprised me.
There are over 80 posts on this site and I have no plan on stopping. As long as I can make the time, I’ll continue to create these. I continue because I really do the efforts are paying off. I believe I’m becoming more comfortable picking out key words from dialogue, questions, and conversations. This lets me follow what is being said.
One of the areas I have the most difficulty is with numbers, surprisingly. In Spanish and Chinese I have no problem understanding numbers. With French, I lack that foundation and just can’t understand. That’s why I’m grateful for today’s class which took us up to 31 (for the days of the month, they said).
This is another step closer to understanding how much things cost when I’m at the market in France and they quote a price. I usually look right down, open my wallet and pick out a bill I think is big enough to handle it. I’ve definitely misunderstood far more than I’ve heard.
