    All laugh

Why are you learning French? For me, there are really countless reasons. Speaking and understanding a language, inherently means understanding cultural norms. Jokes and humor are a great tool to gauge progress.

When I can understand jokes, or eavesdrop on jokes and chuckle in my head, I know I’ve made it. There’s a mental shift that happens when I understand more jokes in more languages, and that shift in my brain is what I strive for with each new phrase I understand.

If you’re just joining us as a beginner, I recommend you start with the first episode of Balades. Follow along daily for new clips.

Sa voisine lui demande : « Mais pourquoi ? Il ne peut pas faire passer l’orage. » « Non, mais comme ça je ne suis pas la seule réveillée. » Et toutes rigolent.

His neighbor asks, “But why? He can’t make the storm go away.” “No, but that way I’m not the only one awake.” And they all laugh.
